Week 3

Our First Week of being Full Time!

What a busy and fun week we have had! The children have really enjoyed being in school full time this week and should be so proud of themselves. They have enjoyed staying for afternoon sessions and I should think they are very tired and looking forward to a restful weekend! Well done RP smiley

Forest School

On Tuesday afternoon we took our first trip in to Forest School. The children were very excited about this and sensibly put on their wellies. We talked first about our Forest School Rules (see if they can tell you what they are!) and then took time to sit at basecamp, played some listening games and enjoyed exploring our wonderful Forest School area. Please remember on Tuesday children come to school dressed in Forest School kit (black bottoms, white polo t-shirt and blue school cardigan/jumper and school shoes) and should keep their wellies in school at all times.

P.E

On Tuesday morning we had our very first P.E lesson. The children took their P.E kits from their pegs and sensibly changed into their P.E kit. We walked along the corridor to the big hall where we enjoyed our very first P.E lesson- well done RP you were amazing! smiley

What a typical full day looks like in Reception!

When the children come into school each day there are activities set up called 'Funky Fingers' which help to strengthen their muscles in readiness for writing. Then I call the children to the carpet where we do the register and choose our special Star of the Day!

We talk through our visual timetable for the day so everyone knows what is happening.

Our first lesson is Phonics which the children are really getting in the swing of now. We are practicing our blending and will soon be ready to send home books with words in them! After phonics the children sit in a circle and are offered a piece of toast and milk and have the opportunity to share their news. After that the children engage in Continuous Provision where they are able to choose an activity to do to enhance their learning, indoors or outdoors. We then gather back on the carpet for our Maths session. This is very practical and fun! It is then time for Miss Parker to take her reading groups to read with- each child gets listened to by Miss Parker 3x a week. Before lunch it is Literacy where we do lots of talking and sharing of a key text. Each child will have the opportunity to sit with Miss Parker to carry out a guided writing activity linked to this throughout the week.

After lunch it is back to the carpet for another session which could be art, understanding the world or RE. Then more time for choosing an activity.

We finish the day with a story together and then it is time for home! Phew...no wonder the children are getting tired!

Phonics

This week we have been learning the phonemes (sounds) 'i', 'n', 'm' and 'd'. Below are the pictures and words we use to help us to write the graphemes. If your child would like to practice these at home that would be amazing! smiley

Phonics

We do hope that your child has enjoyed their first full week at school. We are always available to come and talk to before or after school if you wish to discuss anything.

Have a relaxing weekend!
