Week 3

Gong hei fat choy!

This week we have been learning all about Chinese New Year including when it is, who celebrates and the customs and traditions. We have also been learning some Chinese dancing and have even practised using chopsticks which some of us found quite tricky! We have been taking part in many art and craft activities including a rabbit print (as it is the year of the Rabbit), creating a collage of a Chinese dragon and making some Chinese lanterns. The children also enjoyed transforming our role play area into a Chinese restaurant!

Reading Morning

Our reading morning on Wednesday was a huge success -  thank you to all who were able to attend. It was wonderful to see your children sharing a book with you and lovely to see how proud they were to welcome you into their classroom.

Reading Morning will take place each Wednesday from 8.30-8.45 am, please come along if you are able to.

Local walk - next Friday 27th January

As you are aware we are going on a local walk next Friday morning to embed our learning about different types of homes, our local area and where we live. I am still in need of one parent helper, if you are able to help with the walk please do come to see me. smiley

Winter Wonderland!

Despite the cold temperatures we were able to go out into Forest School this week where the children wrapped up and loved exploring the winter wonderland! The children paired up and went off on a Winter scavenger hunt - they really enjoyed working together and were able to spot some deciduous trees, pine cones, berries and branches continuing our learning from last week.

Phonics

This week in our Phonics lessons we have been learning the new digraphs 'oo', 'oo', 'ar' and 'or'. It has been quite tricky as we have learnt two digraphs which look the same, however they have a different sound! Please see below to see the rhymes we use to help your child to remember each different sound.

The children have enjoyed taking the opportunity to explore the ice outside during our outdoor provision. We have been describing how the ice feels and talking about what happens to the ice throughout the day as the sun comes out.

Wrap up warm and enjoy a wintery weekend.

Thank you for your continued support.
