Week 2

Welcome!

Welcome to Class RB! We really hope that your child has enjoyed their first two weeks in Reception. The children should be incredibly proud of how they have settled into their new routines and it has been wonderful to watch them make new friends. RB's weekly blog will keep you up to date with everything that happens inside the classroom. We hope you enjoy!

Reading at home

This week your child would have come home with a home reading book. For the first week or so, the book will contain just pictures. This is to enable the children to settle into a routine of reading at home regularly. Please support your child with holding the book correctly, turning the pages gently and generating ideas of what could be happening in the story. It's really important that your child reads at home as it will help them greatly when learning to read in Reception.

Phonics

This week we have started teaching phonics in school. Each day we learn a new 'phoneme' (sound) and the corresponding 'grapheme' (the letter that represents the sound). We use this terminology with the children so it will be great if you could use these words at home too! Below are the sounds that we have learnt so far. You could practice saying or writing these sounds at home.
