Welcome to Class RB! We really hope that your child has enjoyed their first two weeks in Reception. The children should be incredibly proud of how they have settled into their new routines and it has been wonderful to watch them make new friends. RB's weekly blog will keep you up to date with everything that happens inside the classroom. We hope you enjoy!
Reading at home
This week your child would have come home with a home reading book. For the first week or so, the book will contain just pictures. This is to enable the children to settle into a routine of reading at home regularly. Please support your child with holding the book correctly, turning the pages gently and generating ideas of what could be happening in the story. It's really important that your child reads at home as it will help them greatly when learning to read in Reception.
This week we have started teaching phonics in school. Each day we learn a new 'phoneme' (sound) and the corresponding 'grapheme' (the letter that represents the sound). We use this terminology with the children so it will be great if you could use these words at home too! Below are the sounds that we have learnt so far. You could practice saying or writing these sounds at home.
Did you know that your child may be eligible to receive additional support with their learning and development in school?
Your child qualifies if you receive any of the following:
- Income support
- Income based jobseekers allowance
- Income related employment and support allowance
- Support under part 6 immigration and asylum act 1999
- Guarantee element of state pension credit
- Child tax credit
- Working tax credit
- Universal credit
Please apply below if you believe this applies to you:
From next week we will be able to share photos of the children in the classroom. We hope that you have a wonderful weekend and we will see you back in school on Tuesday 20th September.
