Week 5

An egg-exciting week!

We couldn't resist combining our topic of come outside with Easter this week so there were lots of chicks, rabbits and eggs to explore this week.

Scientific shadows

This week we continued to explore the themes from last week's science week. This week we explored how shadows are made and managed to draw around some before a rather large cloud scuppered our plans!

Eggs-ordinary Maths

This week we have been ordering the numbers 1-10 and challenging ourselves with the numbers 11-20 too. We have been practising counting to twenty and beyond daily and I spoke to many parents about practicing this at home in a number of ways such as counting steps to 30, counting out objects such as puzzle pieces or in daily life like spoons.

We have also used the ten frame to look at pairs of numbers that make ten altogether.

Super stamping

We have had lots of fun making patterns using the Easter stampers this week

Eggs-cellent Letters

This week we challenged ourselves to find the capital letters to match all the lower case letters because this will help us with our writing and letter recognition in reading.

Amazing writing!

This week in literacy we wrote our own version of the little red hen story. It was amazing to see how independent the children are becoming with their writing!

We love to teach!

This week the children have been sharing their amazing phonics and being the teacher and have been teaching the colour monsters about farming too!

Egg hunt

In RE we have been learning about the Christian festival Easter and looking at what Christians believe. We have listened to different types of music, watched children celebrate in Church and read about the story of Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday. We then had own own egg hunt in the class.

Classroom update

During the holidays the classroom will be getting a new ceiling and lighting. On Friday with the help of my family we emptied the classroom ready for the work to happen. Look at how big it looks!

Finally...

Thank you to all of you who came to Parents Evening. I know that by working together we can really support and help the children make the best possible progress.

I look forward to working with you all next term.

Have a wonderful holiday. Term starts Monday 8th April
