Week 1

Welcome back!

It was wonderful to see everyone back I school this week. The children have enjoyed telling the all about their Christmas and their favourite presents too. This week we have enjoyed getting back outside and of course seeing the diggers start building the new road for the new pre school has caused great excitement!

Here's a little selection of choosing time this week.

Where do I live?

Our new topic this half-term is called 'Where do I live?'. We will be learning about what country we live in, maps and our local area. We began the topic by reading a story called 'Martha Maps it Out' where we learn all about a little girl called Martha and the world around her.

We have learnt the names of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom and discussed if anybody had visited them. We coloured in our own maps too.

Maths - subitising

This week we have been developing our skills in subitising. Which means that you can 'see' a number. This can be achieved by recognising a dot pattern on a dice or by seeing dots and adding them such as a pair of 2 dots and knowing it makes 4. Have a look at the following slides. can your child tell you what number is there without counting?

We enjoyed rolling the dice and making towers of cubes or Numberblocks

Just a little reminder

Forest school will be on Monday. Please wear a white polo shirt, black jogging bottoms or leggings, school jumper or cardigan and school shoes.

Reading books will be changed every Monday and Thursday. Thank you to all of you who have been reading with your children at home - it really makes such a difference. Don't forget to record to the reads so that the children can collect a sticker for 5 reads and a certificate from Miss Peck for 15.

Have a wonderful weekend
