Week 5

Balancing, number hunts and wonderful writing!

What another busy and fun week in Class RP! We have continued to read our story 'On the Way Home' by Jill Murphy this week and used this story as a basis for writing our own wonderful sentences about the main character. The children are getting very good at remembering their capital letters and full stops and are applying their phonics to help them to spell new words. I'm so impressed!

More than, fewer than, or equal?

During Maths this week we have been using the words 'more than', 'fewer than' or 'equal' when comparing different amounts of objects. In our provision it has been great to hear the children using these words with their friends as they count different sets of objects together including dinosaurs, teddy bears and cubes.

P.E

Our P.E sessions again this week saw us creeping through the woods to get to the Three Bears Cottage. We had to lie down low so that the Big Bear couldn't see us and use our high knees to trudge through the gloopy porridge. We then went on to practise different balances in hoops and continued to make this even trickier by holding the balance for 5 seconds! There were a few wobbles!

Phonics

We have learnt three new digraphs this week (two letters, one sound) 'ur' 'ow' and 'oi' and one new trigraph (three letters, one sound) 'ear'. The children are getting more confident at applying these new phonemes to their spellings of new words which they do every morning within our phonics lessons. Can you think of any words with these phonemes in? Why not practise at home? E.g. curl, owl, coin and beard.

Fun in Forest School

During our Forest School session this week we challenged the children to collect different objects to make 5. E.g. 3 leaves and 2 sticks. The children enjoyed collecting and counting their different objects and eagerly came to show me. Well done children!

Another wonderful week where the children have been so eager to learn and apply what they know.

Thank you again to those who were able to attend our Reading Morning on Wednesday. There will be two more reading sessions before Half Term at 8.30-8.45 am on a Wednesday.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,
