Week 4

Forests, Reading, Drawing and plenty of play!

What a fantastic and very busy week its been. Due to the bank holiday last week this has been our first full week of full days. The children are coping amazingly well and I love to see them bounding into school to start our Funky Fingers at 8.30am. Here is just a small selection of the amazing things we've been up to this week.

Reading Workshop

It is wonderful to be able to open our doors and welcome so many parents to the reading workshops. It was great to introduce our phonics scheme called Little Wandle and talk about how we are teaching your children to recognise letters and begin to read words.

You can access all the parents resources such as the pronunciation videos on the website.

If you missed the workshop or could like to look at it again here is the presentation we shared.

Home reading books

Next week we will start sending books home with words. Please support your child to sound-talk each of the letters c-a-t and let them attempt to blend them together before trying to help them. It may take a few times of sound talking before they are able to blend - this is completely normal.

Reading records

A little guidance on filling in the yellow book

  • Please record every read of the school reading book
  • Do not record other books
  • Only one read per day to be written in
  • Short comments and messages are optional but lovely to see

5 reads receives a sticker and lots of praise in class. When you get to 15 its a certificate from Miss Peck!

Read with me!

This week we are sending home a book from our class 'Read with me box'. This is a story book for you to share with your child and for you to read to them. We are really lucky that a donation of books has been given to us and shared between the classes. These books are chosen by the children on a Friday - please return by the following Friday to receive a different one for the next weekend.

Forest School

We loved our first trip into Forest School. We had great fun exploring and playing hide and seek.

Home Learning - Numbots

Please have a look at the home learning books for your child's unique log on to the Numbots Website where they can play lots of Maths based games to support their learning.

We hope you all have a fantastic weekend.
