Week 5

This week the children have been immersed in learning all about the Chinese New Year. This is also known as the Lunar New Year or Spring Festival. We learnt to say Hello and used it for our registers this week.

We has lots of fun exploring rice, noodles and jelli baff. We cut woolly noodles and made dragons from playdough.

We learnt how to write the Chinese characters and had a go at painting them.

We tried our hand at ribbon dancing. It was great fun!

We watched a television programme that showed a family getting ready to celebrate new year. One of the traditions is that the house is cleaned ready to welcome the new start of the new year. The children were very keen to clean the classroom!

On Friday we dressed in red as the colour symbolises good luck. Earlier in the week we had invited Miss Peck to share our Chinese New Year food tasting party. The children loved tasting all the different food. We tried rice, prawn crackers, vegetable spring roll, baby sweetcorn, sugar snap peas and 2 different sauces - sweet and sour and lemon.

Finally, back in the classroom we tried fortune cookies. We found little pieces of paper inside and Mrs Rudkin read out our messages.

What a fantastic week. We have of course been focusing on our phonics and the children have been showing me how much they can remember. Please continue supporting the 5 reads in a week as it really supports the children in their reading journey.

Have a wonderful weekend

Mrs Rudkin and the fabulous RR Team.
