Week 3

Week 3

It's been another busy week in RB with lots of amazing learning opportunities. The children were very excited at the beginning of the week as we have introduced something new into our daily routine - toast! After phonics the children sit down and have their milk and a slice of toast. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to listen to a story, talk to their friends or plan their learning opportunities for the morning.

In maths this week we have been learning our number bonds to 10. This is where we think of two numbers that add up to 10. E.g. 6 + 4 = 10. The children have enjoyed using Numicon to see how many different combinations that they can find.

Our reading practice timetable has also changed where the children now read the same book three times.

Each session has a different focus:

Session 1: decoding (sound talking each word)

Session 2: prosody (developing fluency and expression whilst reading)

Session 3: comprehension (answering questions about the story)

The children also had an amazing day on Friday, celebrating Comic Relief and British Science Week. The children's costumes were fantastic and it was lovely to see the children entering the classroom with such excitement. Throughout the day, we tried quick and simple science experiments and the children were introduced to scientific words like 'predict'.

Have a great weekend.
