Week 2

The children were greeted this week with a Teddy bears picnic in the classroom, as part of our Bears theme. We then had a dance to the song ‘Teddy Bears picnic’ in the infant hall. We were learning to use our imaginations.

This was our first week of ‘star bear’. Star bear will go home with pre-schoolers for the weekend. Two children are chosen each week for impressing us and will then have the opportunity to share with the rest of the group what they got up to. Look out for Star bear!

As we have been thinking about Autumn, we spoke about Hedgehogs and hibernation. We had a visit from a soft, fluffy hedgehog, and worked together to make a leaf bed for it. We really enjoyed this and have started to think about caring for other living things.

This week was Remembrance Day. We have seen people wearing poppies and so we listened to what Remembrance Day is and discussed that poppies are worn to help us remember the brave soldiers. We had a go at some poppy artwork, watched a CBeebies animation ‘Poppy day’ about a rabbit and its family. We also took part in the silence.

During some of our carpet sessions we were focusing on counting from numbers 1-5. To help us with this, we played a game of 1,2,3,4,5 once I caught a fish alive. The children enjoyed this so much they all had a turn and some children even sang the whole nursery rhyme by themselves to the rest of the group!

What a lovely, imaginative week we have all had.

Next week we will be learning all about the fairy tale of Goldilocks and the three bears.
