Week 1

Autumn 2 - Week 1

Hi everyone,

Welcome back to Reception after hopefully a well-deserved rest at home. The children have returned to school with a chill in the air as Autumn is finally here. We have been discussing the changes that occur during Autumn time and in particular, the changes in colour that we see and the objects that we can find. We explored this in PE this week as we created our very own Autumn leaf storm dance, which the children really enjoyed!

We have also been looking at poetry this week, with the children really enjoying the chance to explore and learn new exciting words and phrases. Poetry in Reception really helps the children develop their language and vocabulary and improves their literacy skills as well.

A particular poem that the children really enjoyed this week is a nonsense poem called ‘On the Ning Nang Nong’ by Spike Milligan. If you would like to listen or read the poem, you can find it here:

The children have been giggling away to the silliness of this poem so I hope you enjoy sharing it with your child too.

On The Ning Nang Nong

On the Ning Nang Nong
Where the Cows go Bong!
and the monkeys all say BOO!
There's a Nong Nang Ning
Where the trees go Ping!
And the tea pots jibber jabber joo.
On the Nong Ning Nang
All the mice go Clang
And you just can't catch 'em when they do!
So its Ning Nang Nong
Cows go Bong!
Nong Nang Ning
Trees go ping
Nong Ning Nang
The mice go Clang
What a noisy place to belong
is the Ning Nang Ning Nang Nong!!

Finally, we have been thinking about Fireworks and how to stay safe during Bonfire Night. As a class, we came up with the following safety rules:

  • Keep pets indoors
  • Stand far away
  • Always wear gloves with sparklers
  • Fireworks can only be held by adults

We hope you have a safe and wonderful fireworks weekend. A polite reminder that home learning journals went home today and are due back on Tuesday.

Thank you.

Mr Bartle
