School Council

We are very proud of the role our school council have at Chawson.

The school council is structured much like the government as it is made up of different sub-committees.  Each of these committees is designed to have a specific focus on improving Chawson First.

The school council promotes pupil leadership opportunities, enabling children to develop valuable communication, organisation and debating skills through key roles of responsibility and new experiences. The school council benefits the whole school, pupils and teachers because it provides opportunities for pupils to communicate their opinions as well as influence the decisions that are made on their behalf.  Pupils relish the opportunity to become a greater part of school life and enjoy making their voices heard.

Purpose:

·         To develop pupil voice across the school

·         To give the children an experience of democracy and politics

·         To enable the children to lead projects across the school

·         To develop teamwork and confidence

Selection:

All children in KS1 & 2 are given the opportunity to apply for roles on the school council.

What do we do?

Committees hold regular meetings with their class to discuss topics, issues and initiatives that affect them and their learning environment as well as charity events.  Each sub-committee regularly meets with their teacher lead to discuss issues raised by the class and other important areas. The committee members work together on projects with different members of staff to get the best out of every project.

Committees this year include:

Pupil voice champions

Art champions

Internet safety champions

Sports champions

Charity champions

Behaviour champions

Eco champions

Reading champions
